Executive Summary

Everett Soares is an amateur photographer and comic book writer/illustrator who frequents Comic Con-style events in the New England area. Multiple persons came forward in 2019 to recount instances of harassment and stalking that happened mainly at Rhode Island Comic Con.

As detailed in the following document, Everett Soares has earned Project Sauron’s highest threat level for an individual due to his extreme persistence in pursuing his victims, documented instances of manipulating victims in to maintaining contact with him long after they have expressed a desire to cut contact, harassment of critics of his behavior, blatant dishonesty in his many claims of getting help and staying away from events, and use of his self-appointed title of photographer to gain access to victims and do harm to vulnerable persons.

Additionally, it has been confirmed by staff at Rhode Island Comic Con aware of the incident that in 2018 (or possibly 2017), Susan Soares -Mr. Soares’ wife and also head of Public Relations at Altered Reality Events (which owns and operates RICC)- aided and abetted Mr. Soares’ harassment and stalking of one of his victims by allegedly (inferred by eyewitnesses) providing him with new event passes whenever he asked, then convincing the security department to not request the presence of local law enforcement to have him removed as long as he left the property when an altercation between friends of the victim and Mr. Soares occurred.

Recommended Handling Methods

Immediate ban from event upon first complaint

Film any confrontation between security staff and the KPT

Order staff involved with Community Management to be vigilant for alts and ban/block anyone suspected to be the KPT

Make sure all staff are aware of KPT’s physical appearance, order all staff to immediately notify Venue Security/Law Enforcement if KPT is seen after ban/ejection. Properly motivate all staff to not hesitate in doing this, no matter who tries to convince them not to

Immediately terminate the employment of any executive staff who try to speak up for KPT or prevent the involvement of law enforcement in removing KPT

Immediately terminate the employment of any staff who give KPT a new event pass/credentials, or makes a new event pass/credentials for KPT

Issue a ban to any person or persons who assist KPT in evading ban

Initiate legal action if KPT refuses to go away

Description

Mr. Soares is an amateur author and photographer in the Northeastern US.

He came to Project Sauron’s attention back in 2018 when a Google Drive file was linked on the original “Con Creeper Tip Line”. This Drive file detailed multiple instances of harassment both conventional and sexual in nature. Most of these testimonies detailed incidents that occurred at Rhode Island Comic Con or other events centered in the New England area. The records show that Mr. Soares’ problematic behavior has been known about in the local community since at least 2013.

Of particular note is how brazen and childish Mr. Soares is in his behavior towards his victims. For example, the victim whose record of abuse stretches back to 2013 recounts how when they asked Mr. Soares to leave them alone, Mr. Soares simply created multiple alter egos with which to continue communicating with them. During a convention after the victim had expressed their wish to be left alone, Mr. Soares stayed 10 feet away from the victim’s booth at all times. At one point during the con, even after being asked to leave the victim alone multiple times by con security, Mr. Soares hid his face behind his con badge, approached the victim, claimed to be on “official con business”, told them to go to a photoshoot, and then almost got in to a fight with the victim’s friends.

Additionally, testimony to Mr. Soares’ actions and behavior point to the extremely poor quality of his photography and the inappropriate nature by which he propositions female cosplayers to model for him, or in some cases the complete lack of asking for permission to photograph someone at all. This testimony infers that Mr. Soares merely uses photography as a cover by which he may more easily gain access to persons he is attracted to, where in any other scenario his behavior would see him immediately shunned by the potential victim.

The usual reaction from Mr. Soares when a victim or someone else calls out Mr. Soares for his abuse is at first immediate hostility and threats, then self-hatred, threats of self-harm, and eventually disgustingly saccharine pleas for forgiveness and reconciliation. It is highly recommended by Project Sauron that if you find yourself faced with this behavior from Mr. Soares, that you completely ignore any pleas for forgiveness, as these are most certainly just methods for him to retain contact with you so that the harassment can continue.

Callouts And Admission of Guilt

Most of the callouts of Mr. Soares’ behavior took place in 2019 on Instagram, the Original Poster proclaims that they were motivated by the ALA 2019 Arson incident.

Mr. Soares found this thread and even admitted to his behavior in a very vague sense and repeatedly begged for forgiveness from the people participating in the callout. Thankfully, this behavior was not welcomed by those sharing their experiences and Mr. Soares eventually stopped posting.

Known Associates

According to senior RICC staffers familiar with the incident, Susan Soares, Mr. Soares’ wife, has used her position as head of PR for Altered Reality Events to help Mr. Soares avoid prosecution and interaction with Law Enforcement over his behavior at RICC and potentially other events run by Altered Reality.

In 2017 or potentially 2018, Mr. Soares was merely escorted off the property by convention security after harassing a guest of RICC multiple times, and it was due to his wife’s influence that, allegedly, the police were never called to arrest him and press charges for his actions.

While this may seem relatively minor, Susan Soares’ enabling of Mr. Soares’ behavior most likely interfered with the victim’s ability to file a restraining order later on, as according to testimony from the victim themselves, the judge presiding over the case cited a lack of evidence that Mr. Soares was enough of a threat to warrant one.

In the future, we will be looking into any other incidents where Susan Soares has used her authority and influence to enable problematic behavior.
